Saturn in Libra Lessons

Astrologers have been inundated the last year with questions from people with Libra planets - about their relationships. Mostly the stories we hear are of couples that are barely compatible, with one or the other partner trying to force the relationship to happen. Often it's a situation where the "couple" have already broken up, and the other partner is hoping the estranged lover will magically "return". It can also be a situation where there are legal entanglements, and one partner is using that to force the other to do certain things.

Saturn is in Libra now and until next October – and is trying to make us more mature in our relationships. Saturn says "get your act together" and "follow the laws and rules". A lot of the people with the worst problems right now were born with Pluto in Libra in the 1970' and early 1980's. These folks are going to have their most intense experiences through relating or being in a marriage-type relationship. Unfortunately in many cases they already know this – and use the Pluto energy to try and force others into submission. That's not love - that's something else, and it isn't going to get any better by applying more force. Saturn is conjuncting their Pluto's forcing them to grow up. It's not fun, and it's not easy.

The other tough cases are ones with Saturn in Libra natally, who are having their Saturn returns now. These people go back and forth (Libra can never make up it's mind) and are on-and-off quite miserable right now in their relationships. People born in 1981 and 1982 are having the worst of it since they were born with both Saturn AND Pluto in Libra, AND they're having their Saturn returns at the same time Saturn is going over their Plutos. Yikes. If you're in a relationship with one of these folks now, give them lots of room for acting out, changing their minds, etc. It's one of the toughest times in their lives for them. Don't worry – this too shall pass.

All these folks take a moment to take a step back, and learn about their topic first, and approach the subject of relationships in a more Saturnian (rational, methodical) manner. There are specific things you can do improve your love life. The two main things:

1 - Learn relationship skills (because it's not easy, even with your perfect soulmate because you'll still be stuck in the material world)

2 - Find the right person (which you can learn how to do)

If you don't find the right person - all the skills in the world won't make it work. And if you find the right person, but you haven't skills to keep the relationship afloat - that won't work either.

Find out what the laws and rules of love are. I recommend for women to read Christian Carter - Catch Him and Keep Him, and Paige Parker's - Dating Without Drama. Those 2 books plus Kathryn Alice's Love Will Find You (great for men too) are great guides. If you're in a relationship that is difficult (if you find the right person... it's not as difficult) read It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken: The Smart Girl's Break-Up Buddy by Greg Behrendt

So if you're not in a serious relationship now, don't beat yourself up. Poorly matched couples are having a tough time of it, and should just give up and take some time out. Saturn in Libra is Time to get serious about partners. If you're in a relationship now that is barely surviving – do yourself a favor and move on. Take a break, educate yourself, and use the methods out there to find a compatible mate, and don't forget to learn how to be a compatible mate.

Boys Chasing Girls Again

Venus represents the feminine principle of love, and Mars the masculine principle of desirous action. As they circle around the Sun, one is always ahead, either pulling away or allowing the other to catch up. When the two come together in a 0 degree aspect, we humans start a new cycle of romantic love.

The last time this happened was in October in the sign Scorpio. Venus got behind Mars and has been chasing him ever since. She has finally caught up with Mars again in Taurus (exact on May 23). Finally, the tables are turned, and the masculine will start chasing the feminine. Hopefully, in real life – this will play out.

This new meeting of Venus and Mars is in Taurus. Venus rules Taurus, making it a happier place for Venus. There will be less game-playing and secrets, and more open, simple pleasures. This also bodes well for life's physical pleasures: food, money, shopping, luxuries, as well as passionate, physical love. Jupiter goes into Taurus in a couple of weeks, which is good news – for not only those of us desiring more food, love and pleasure – but also for the stock market and business world.

The Sabian Symbol for the degree of the Venus-Mars meeting itself is 9 Taurus: A Christmas Tree Is Decorated and Shines In The Darkness. This speaks of presents not yet opened, of joys about to be experienced, of a pent-up need for pleasure and happiness about to finally be satisfied.

This aspect, however, has a gotcha: Saturn in Libra is making a 150-degree aspect to this Venus-Mars conjunction. This means that while we're eager to enjoy the physical pleasures, Saturn is still holding the reigns, urging us to slow down, wait, and consider the consequences. Relationships beginning now will feel the urgency to race ahead, and the need to hold back – perhaps because of practical considerations. In this situation, the principles of balance and adjustment are called for. In the long run, this is good, because when Saturn is in the mix, the chances for stability and longevity are part of the package.

I was curious about time changes between 1889 and now. There's a good page on Japan's history of time zones here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Standard_Time It looks as though the current time zone of +9 was in use back in 1889 so the time on the clock in the illustration wouldn't need to be adjusted. Below is the chart cast by Jamie Darkstar (I checked his longitude and latitude on Google Earth and it is correct (however, in this chart, Solar Fire has adjusted the time):

March 2011 Calendar

Wow, March 2011 is busy! The unique events start to happen in a big way. We have Mercury, Venus, Uranus, and the Moon's Nodes all changing signs this month.

March 3rd, the Moon's North node leaves Capricorn and enters Sagittarius. This begins an 18-month focus on communicating, teaching, learning, and whatever else makes your head spin. March 9th, Mercury enters Aries, and because of it's retrograde motion, stays in Aries until May 15th. This gives us a new refreshing period of new thoughts, communications, mental energy and new beginnings.

March 11th, Uranus enters Aries (our personal favorite) – and things really start to rock! Power to the people and making things happen! We already see revolutions in countries across the planet. Scientists all over the world are using LENR (cold fusion) to create low-cost or even "free" energy. Most of the inventions during the next 7 years will assist the masses and make life better for the good of all.

March 20th Spring begins – the Sun goes into Aries, and March 26th Venus enters Pisces which lasts through April 20th. This is a nice example of a dual exaltation because the Sun is exalted in Aries, and Venus is exalted in Pisces. The Sun in Aries will give the newly found Uranus in Aries an serious kickstart (it conjuncts it within hours of entering this fiery, start-up sign), while Venus in Pisces will help us all still feel a little bit compassionate about each other.

March 30th starts another 'Mercury Retrograde' cycle which happens about 3 times a year. Mercury retrograde 'motion' is about slowing down to work on "re" words, such as: rethink, redo, realize, recognize, relax, revisit and review. Make sure to dot your i's and cross your t's. Contracts – and even simple communications – can be misread, misinterpreted, or misplaced, so take special care with all forms of communication. Always get a copy or have an extra to show other parties on hand.

Days to watch out for: March 13th, Mercury squares Pluto – ouch – and March 18, Mercury opposite Saturn – ouch again. All dates are in Pacific Time.

Find Anyone's Birthday

Often I want to look at the chart of a professional I do business with - say my lawyer, accountant, banker, etc. Since I don't want reveal what I'm up to, I've developed a strategy for looking up their birthday online that works 90% of the time.

First, I look for them on www.intellius.com. If the name is unique it's easier. The site will list all occurances of the name you give it, and past residences of the person. Knowing a little bit about the person, you can figure out which one it is in the list. And next to the name and cities of residence, you'll see an age.

Take the age to http://www.stevemorse.org/birthday/birthday2.html and enter what you know. It should come up with a birthday. If it doesn't, the next step is go to ancestry.com where birth records from many states are archived. However, you need to be a member. That site will at least list the birth year and month. After all that, I usually break down and confess my obsession with astrology, and the person in question always ponies up the day for me.

Miss USA Rima Fakih

Miss USA Rima Fakih with her Lebanese roots make her a very interesting and controversial public figure. She is Muslim and was born in Lebanon. She became Miss Michigan in 2009.

According to Wikipedia, Fakih (born October 2, 1986) is the first Miss Michigan to win the Miss USA title since Kenya Moore in 1993. Fakih was born in Srifa, Lebanon on October 2, 1986, to a prominent Shi'a Muslim family. She moved to New York with her family in 1993, where she later attended St. John's Preparatory School, a Catholic high school.Her family moved to Dearborn, Michigan, in 2003. Fakih's family is Muslim, but they celebrate elements of both the Muslim and Christian faiths. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rima_Fakih). Here is a Noon chart for the new Miss USA (so far, birth time unknown): There is an extra set of points around the usual natal planets so we can see a large set of her asteroid placements.

Some interesting things to note: Pluto is currently conjunct her Neptune in Capricorn. Thus she is helping to revolutionize (Pluto) the world with her image (Neptune). A lot more can be said about this transit – you can read about it here: http://www.cafeastrology.com/plutotransits.html.

She has Bacchus very closely conjunct Uranus. Bacchus - the ultimate indulgent party animal is completely blended with Uranus - the revolutionary who snubs his/her nose at authority and restrictions. In this case, not only is it obvious how this is manifesting itself, but the news on this front is still evolving (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/17/rima-fakih-stripper-photo_n_579381.html.)

She also has Icarus very closely conjunct Hidalgo. Where Icarus falls in your chart the tendency is to have a low tolerance to restrictions. (Zane Stein: http://www.zanestein.com/icarus.htm.) This is a very adventurous placement, to say the least. Hidalgo is self-assertion, to take risks, to take an action without regard to the consequences, and possibly to heroism. (Zane Stein: http://www.zanestein.com/hidalg.htm.) Blend these two together and you get a very gutsy person, to say the least.

Eros conjunct Pandora in Aquarius - wow, talk about opening Pandora's box - an Arab woman showing herself and winning an ultimate award for awakening the love urge in others. Need I say more?

Even without her exact birth time, we can see that she has all the makings of a powerful, successful person. Her Mercury square Mars may get her into verbal arguments and squabbles, but eventully the square will mature into strength of self-expression. Uranus in Sagittarius square to Jupiter in Pisces, and completed by a Virgo Moon gives her the T-square necessary to give a person a life full of enough conflict to forge a strong character.

Also interesting to note is that with a noon chart, her Ascendant is 16 Sagittarius - Venus' South Heliocentric Node. With Uranus right on that Ascendant - giving her revolutionary gifts. It also gives her Sun in the 10th (fame).

It will be interesting to watch her career from here considering the coming T-square of Pluto, Uranus and Saturn directly aspecting her Sun. I would not predict an easy life for the next 10 years, but certainly one filled with intensity, conflict and personal growth (all necessary to forge a strong character).

Everyone Having a Crisis?

A friend remarked today that everyone seemed to be having a crisis of some kind right now, and wanted to know – what's going on?

For starters - it's the Full Moon in Taurus tonight (April 27, 2010) - which can be the most spiritual of times, or the most difficult of times. Also known as the "Buddha's Full Moon" or "Wesak Festival" – great description of it can be found here: http://bit.ly/bQJVRd

In the bigger picture, it's the Saturn-Uranus opposition – and it's getting worse and better all at once. The opposition has been going on and off in Virgo-Pisces for awhile. But it's catching up to join Pluto in a T-square that will last years. When the opposition enters Libra-Aries, things will really start to change (Saturn has already touched Libra and has traversed back to Virgo).

Look at the missing piece of the puzzle, and that's where the stress will be working itself out. A T-square formation is much like a 4-part cross, but one part is left out. Three signs are included, and one sign is left out. In this case, that sign not included is Cancer - the family, and also emotions, mother, nurturing, comfort, etc. So look for events in this area to be source of the anguish.

Ofcourse, the other parts of the T-square are involved in the mayhem– which in this case are relationships (Saturn in Libra), career/business/politics (Pluto in Capricorn), and Uranus in Pisces/Aries. We haven't seen the good part yet though - Uranus in Aries on May 27. That should bring some new fun adventurous energy to the table. We should see some new, and possibly unexpected advances in medicine, technology, social reform, etc. Yes, the stress of it all is causing the old patterns to wear down and break, but we need to clear away the old so we can bring in the new!

Country Chart for Poland

In view of the recent Polish tragedy, here is the chart for Poland:

The first thing the trained eye will notice is the stellium in Capricorn. The country of Poland will play a leading role in the world transformation of governments with the planets Uranus (revolution), Saturn (accomplishment) and Neptune (higher order) in the sign of Capricorn (governments). Venus in Libra indicates a role as peacemaker in world affairs. The impending T-square in early cardinal signs has promised to shake governments up worldwide.

As Saturn has just re-entered Virgo it begins to conjunct (sit on top of) Mercury - the country's collective mind and communications. A sad (Saturn) time for this has definitely ensued.

Heliocentric Nodes of Uranus

Like the nodes of the Moon, the nodes of the planets can be used in charts as well. Astrologers use both the geocentric and/or heliocentric nodes according to their preference. It's hard – if not impossible –to find an online table or ephemeris for the heliocentric nodes of planets besides the Moon.   If you want to calculate them for your chart, cast your chart in Heliocentric in Solar Fire and add Extra Ring Points, then choose Nodes as your Extra Ring Points file.

Some astrologers use the heliocentric nodes rather than the geocentric nodes because they say that for them - the heliocentric nodes seem to work better. I use heliocentric nodes, and the rest of this article is about the heliocentric nodes.

The way the planetary nodes work in a chart is similar to how the nodes of the Moon work. The north node is where you're going, and the tail is where you're coming from.   The planetary nodes then give the characteristics of the planet they represent. The nodes of Uranus represent a point of eccentricity in your chart.   If you have the nodes of Uranus conjunct your Ascendant, you would probably be known as a revolutionary of some kind. Mick Jagger and Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh both have Uranus' nodes conjunct their Ascendants at 13 Gemini. Whereever the north nodes of Uranus are in your chart is where you are learning to express your wildest individuality.

The heliocentric nodes of the planets move very slowly. In 1900, the north node of Uranus was at about 13 degrees and 29 minutes of Gemini. Now it's at about 14 Gemini 03. It moves about 30 minutes every 100 years. Here's a list of where the heliocentric true nodes are in 2010:

Mercury   18'27" Taurus/Scorpio
Venus    16'45" Gemini/Sagittarius
Mars    19'38" Taurus/Scorpio
Jupiter   10'35" Cancer/Capricorn
Saturn   23'45" Cancer/Capricorn
Uranus 14'03" Gemini/Sagittarius
Neptune 11'52" Leo/Aquarius
Pluto    20'01" Cancer/Capricorn

Note that the heliocentric nodes are always exactly opposite each other.

Here are some more examples: If you have Uranus' nodes conjunct your Moon, you will have a tumultuous home life until you learn to work the principals of Uranus into your domestic lifestyle in a positive way. If the nodes are conjunct your Venus, your love life might a bit on the unusual side, and so on. If the nodes are conjunct your Mercury, you are likely blessed with an unusual intellect. Another interesting example is Arnold Schwarzenegger who has Pluto's north Node at 19 Cancer (back in 1947) conjunct his Ascendant.

Moon Void of Course

Moon Void of Course (MVOC) is an old, powerful tool of Astrology. It is defined as the time between when the moon makes its last aspect (like a conjunction or trine)* in a particular sign, and when the moon enters the next sign.** For instance, if the Moon is in the last few degrees of a sign - say Pisces, if it has no more major aspects to make to any of the main planets, then it is considered "Void" until it enters Aries. An MVOC in experience is much like the frustrating Mercury retrograde. Things don't necessarily flow along in an expected manor.

If one is to assume that there is such a thing as “Right Timing” - which is when things fall into place for the good of all concerned when the time is right - then here's another technique.

For various reasons - It is not generally considered a good idea to begin something new while the Moon is VOC. However, finishing an activity during a MVOC is usually favorable. The problem with starting something during MVOC is that it probably won’t turn out as expected. Modifications, delays, or long amounts of time may become part of the process.

One useful use of Moon Void of Course is to complete unappealing tasks. Great time to make phone calls that you don't want to make. In other words - good chance of missing them. If you want try to delay the outcome of something, start it during MVOC.

Travel – allow more time for traffic. Be cautious. Many feel lost and people lack focus until the moon moves into the next sign. For instance, I would try to avoid booking an airline trip to begin during an MVOC. Same with medical issues. Don’t have the first surgery in a given part of your body during MVOC. Don’t get married during MVOC, unless it is a remarriage to the same person. It's typically not considered a great time to launch a business, buy a house, buy a car, etc. during MVOC.

Example: The Titanic was launched during Moon Void of Course.

Moon Void of Course time is better spent cleaning up uncompleted tasks, meditating, or doing research. It is the close of a cycle, NOT the beginning….time to chillax.

*The Major Aspects, or Ptolemy aspects of the degrees: 0, 60, 90, 120, 180
**The Moon Void of Course period can last from a few moments to over two and a half days.

Transiting Uranus conjuncts Sullenberger's North Node in Pisces

Here is the natal birth chart for Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, born Jan 23, 1951, 5:06am in Denison, Texas.

Transiting Uranus was and is conjuncting Chesley (Sully) Sullenberger's North Node in Pisces (at 19 degrees 50 minutes) and he miraculously saves a planeload of people in a water landing. And becomes instantly famous for it. Uranus was actually at 19'44" at the time of the landing, and crossed over his nodes as word of his deed spread. Also, he's a 3 degree Aquarius Sun, and Jupiter is conjuncting his Sun now, and was at exactly 2'23" at the time of the landing. Boy, is he ever experiencing a period of Jupiterian good luck!

Also interesting to note is this was pulled off during a Mercury retrograde when things often don't go right and are fraught with mistakes. But the fact that his own Natal Mercury is Retrograde allows him to overcome those odds.

We have enough serious energy going on now with Pluto in Capricorn. It's time for Jupiter to free itself and slide into the next sign, Aquarius, on January 6, 2009-- staying there until February, 2010. I, for one, can't wait! Jupiter spends about a year in each sign, and only does this once every 12 years. The last time Jupiter went into Aquarius was January 22, 1997, when Clinton began his second term, Steve Jobs returned to Apple, and the Pathfinder landed on Mars - the first return to Mars in 20 years.

This time around, Jupiter will coincide with Obama's inauguration, and Obama himself will have a Jupiter return (he was born with Jupiter in Aquarius). The web and tech boom was really still exploding upwards and outwards in 1997. It should bring a year of great humanitarian events and group activities.

Well it's finally here, Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto (destruction and rebirth) in the sign of Capricorn (political and business structures) will bring about 15 years of rebirth of our political and business structures. It's time for the old structures to go away so that the new ones can replace them. This may not be the easiest of times, but it is the most necessary of times.
